I have recently discovered that I am entitled to work in the Russian Federation. Unlike other expats I know, I do not need a work permit because I have a Вид на жительство :O)
I can also travel in and out of the country as often as I like without having to re-registar each time, and having a British passport allows me to travel to almost any country in the world without too much trouble and at short notice.
I do not need a work permit, visa or accommodation here in Moscow. I am a British citizen but I have a green card which entitles me to live and work here. Anyone interested it getting one of these, good luck to you! It's very difficult and takes a lot of time (years).

Recently I have rediscovered an interest in art. I have a rather young private student who loves to make a mess with paints and I find myself asking the age old question, what is art anyway? or rather what makes a work of art good? Perhaps it's the way it conveys the artists feelings or is it just the hype around it and a good marketing campaign. I suppose it's about what criteria the viewer(s) use to rate the piece.

Anyway, as an experiment I thought I would post a random piece by an unknown artist and ask some questions.

How does your view of the work change (your rating)....

1) If you found out that the piece was painted by a 10 year old, would you rate it differently?

2) If it was discovered to be 500 years old?

3) If you know that I painted it :)

4) If I told you that it was painted on top of a photo?

5) If it was made by a computer?

6) If I told you that it was bought for $50,000 at an auction house in Moscow?

7) If you found out that it is part of a collection that is on tour in the states?

The more often and more carefully I look at my students work of art, the more it becomes familiar to me and the more it seems to fit into my life. When something becomes so much a part of your life that parting with it causes you to feel as if you have lost a piece of yourself then you assign great value to it. Perhaps that is the way society rates art, just another manifestation of individual selfish projection.

So an impressive work of art would be one that people can quickly relate to and won't forget and then all you need is some good marketing.... :O)

Hi my name is Esteban Agorriz/Steven Fogarty.
I don't have a split personality just a complicated life.
Well you'll find out more about it as we go along.

So, I'm British or Spanish or Russian, not sure any longer and I'm an expat Maths teacher living in Moscow and Studying for my MBA international business management.

Thats me while on holiday in Turkey a couple of summers ago.
I've got a friend in Oman (no he's not an Arab, his name is Dan and he likes to drink Beer and smokes too much), who keeps sms'n and keeps me amused with news of his adventures.
I decided to try to keep a blog and post to it every day, but with the hectic life I lead, I thought it might be better as a place to keep friends family and anyone else interested up to date with my latest projects.
Why? well I wish I could read my great grandparents blog! Knowing where you came from helps you know who you are and that's one of the pillars of my phylosophy in life, Know Thyself!
